2Does Google Workspace Essentials include Gmail?

No — Essentials editions do not include Gmail. That is the whole point: you keep your current email provider (Microsoft 365/Exchange, an on-prem server, or another host) and add Google's collaboration tools — Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides and Google Meet — on top. If you need professional custom-domain Gmail, choose a Google Workspace Business edition instead.
